RE: Is our T.V antenna going to work in 2009 ??

I heard that the batwing ant. that are painted white (the newer style)will work better but the old style silver wings will also work.According to Winegard, they are the same. They claim that the pre-amps haven't changed in 30 years (which is probably incorrect. Most of the silicon devices are obsolete now). Having said that, there was a small run of OEM antennas for a TT mfgr. that ran lower gain amps, and keeping track of those quickly turned into a nightmare for them so they quit supplying them that way. Ken: Great last line.. Can I borrow it? Go for it. I borrowed it from an engineernig forum I visit. ken

RE: Reese Cam WD - How much tension?

As noted, always talk about links under tension. Also, read the Dual cam set up and then set your hitch accordingly. You should not just decide to tighten up a link, but check your set up. Ken

RE: Dually Sway-Scary!

We have noticed a tendency to wallow, not really sway on a groved road surface. No big deal, we just slow down for a bit. Ken

RE: "Overkill" tow vehicle

I have an 02 F350, crewcab dually to pull my 28' Silver Streak. Way over sized on the truck, but it does a good job and economically it makes ZERO sense to try to go to a 3/4 ton diesel at this point in time. Ken

RE: Is our T.V antenna going to work in 2009 ??

For any that want to get really technical, the oldest form of radio communication was digital. The old Morse Code or CW is digital. There are other forms of radio communications, on the analog side is SSB (single side band), FM, AM and in the new digital is packet and the lsit goes on. On my radio at the house I use the same antenna for CW, SSB or Packet transmissions and reception. As for receiving digital TV or analog TV, you have a specific antenna tuned to the frequency band you are receiving. You can actually use a piece of speaker wire cut to the right length and oriented correctly. So plug your digital TV or converter box into you old antenna and relax. The TV stations are allowed a specific band width inwhich to operate. The standard digital Tv uses the narrowest band width. As you go to HD (high definition) TV it requires more band width. Most stations will be operating one HD signal and maybe 2 standard definition signals within their alloted band width. If they go to a 1080i signal, they will use more of the availabale band width and may have room for one additional standard definiton signal. It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt. Ken

RE: Is our T.V antenna going to work in 2009 ??

There are Analog antennas and there are Digital antennas. You will need a Digital antenna. Depending on when your RV was built as to whether you have a digital or not. I Hope this helps. Good Luck. I bet you have some ocean-front property in Arizona for sale too. I don't know where this myth got started, but the standard antenna will work for digital. The standard coaxial cable will work too. An antenna is designed to receive a certain range of frequencies and they are NOT changing. All that is changing is the form of the signal from analog to digital....same frequencies. You will need a digital to analog converter to convert from the digital signal to the old analog signal if you do not have a digital ready TV. It will put out a signal in the analog format that your old TV can receive. You will change channels on the digital box, not the TV. If you happen to have a digital ready DVD or VCR, you can use it as your tuner to input to the analog TV as well. In some cases, you may have to turn off the antenna booster or even bypass it. If your TV is manufactured after mid year 2007, it should be digital ready, in which case it just hooks up to the OLD standard VHF/UHF antenna. If anyone has gone out and bought a "digital antenna", let's just say you were fleeced. Ken

RE: Could Use Some Advice

Make sure your pin is about 2" forward of the rear axle center line. next, weigh the rig and see what you have as a pin weight. As a TH, it may be pin heavy until you load some toys and take a bit of load off the pin. But the chucking can be a function of the road, pavement breaks and wheelbases. Ken

RE: SUV Hauling

Back to what Les Adams said....bigger is definitely better for a tow vehicle. You are more likely to get into a problem situation with a smaller vehicle than a larger one on a given size trailer. The correct set up of the trailer and hitch goes a long way to a better towing experience. I encourage everyone to know how to do their own hitch set up. When we were towing a 21' Lite travel trailer with a 4.0L, 3.73 axle Explorer. It had enough power and did a better job than the previous S-10 Blazer, but it was sensitive to loading of the trailer. It did not take much weight shift to go from tows pretty well to not so good. Out loaded trailer was right at 4200# and the truck was rated for something like 5500#. I really get up set the the group that say it tows fine, offer no real weights and you find out that a l ong trip for them is maybe 100 miles. Towing across country with varying terrain and load conditions is a different story. With the short wheelbased SUV's please exerciser caution. The short wheelbase and high center of gravity are inherently less stable than a longer wheel base vehicle. Ken

RE: mini snauzer starving all the time

First thing you need to do is find a better vet. Find someone that cares about the animals and is smart enough to treat them. We have had miniature schnauzers fro 39 years now and on 3# and #4. The old male is 15.5 years old and the female is about 6 or 7 as she was a rescue dog and we do not know her age. A decent vet can get you set up on a diet that works with the dogs condition. The old male has been on L/D dry food for about 6 years now due to a liver problem. He is prone to pancreatitis and has had a couple of rounds with it. Anopther thing you may want to get the vet to check is blood sugar as it may well be diabetic. But do find another vet. Ken

RE: model designations

There was a time when the manufacturers used a model designation that was the actual length. Now they want to get you confused. Best to get the brochures and find the REAL overall length. Ken

RE: How tight should the A/C roof seal be compressed?

Another issue is to tighten them evenly. The floor pans on the newer A/C units are pretty thin and can be warped if they are not snugged evenly. If you warp the pan, you might cauase the fan to hit the housing....yes they are that flimsey. Ken

RE: Awning Situation

Take it off the trailer and try to bow it back the other way. By the way, I NEVER live the awning out at night for that reason. It is too easy to get it damaged by wind or rain. ken

RE: Insulating Exposed Tanks/Pipes With "Great Stuff"?

About the best thing to do is to use some of the aluminum backed duct board. Cut to fit and glue tot he tank. I'd still add some straps to hold the stuff into place. This will not help much in a static situation. Over a period of time, the tanks will still loose the heat and eventaully freeze unless you apply an external heat source such as the stick on tank heater pads. Ken

RE: Performance Chips

The problem with "better MPG" is that the chips can manage to make a very small improvment in the efficiency of the engine over a small range. bacically you can ot change the laws of thermodynamics Energy in = energy out. To get more energy out of the engine you need more energy in...which is the fuel. The engines are pretty well optomized to provide a high efficiency over a broad range. Ken

RE: Rejected Because RV over 10 Years Old

There are a lot of folks out here with Vintage trailers. A lot of money, time and effort goes into these fine old trailers. For most, vintage begins at 20 years old. I just bypass the snob campgrounds. Ken
